SHEKTER, Benjamin Peacefully on July 4, 2013, in his 97th year, beloved husband to the late Dorothy (Taylor) for 67 years. Loving father of Mark and Nancy, Richard and Jane, Lorie and Lorne (Wolfson), and Rhona and Robert (Muirhead). Forever remembered by grandchildren Jonathan, Katherine, Brooke and Jon, Erin and Patrick, Rachel and Matthew, Leah and Adam, and Max. Predeceased by his parents Lilly and James, sister and brothers Claire, Harry, and Jack. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Celly for her many years of devotion and the staff of the palliative care unit at Baycrest. Ben will be remembered for his devotion to his family, the Hamilton Jewish community, and his love of music. One of his proudest accomplishments was co-founding Shalom Village. There was never a moment that he was not sharing his ideas, offering his assistance, or providing his wise counsel. Funeral will be held in Hamilton, Sunday, July 7, 2013 at United Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 28 Ewen Rd., at 1 p.m. Shiva will be held at 20 Silverwood Ave., in Toronto beginning Sunday at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome after 1 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday. Shiva ends Wednesday evening. Services at 8 p.m. Donations can be made to Shalom Village (905-529-1613 ext. 356).
