In Loving Memory of Mikhail Brat
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Mikhail Brat, on February 2, 2025.
Born in 1937 in the former Soviet Union, Mikhail survived the horrors ofthe Holocaust, as well as the difficult life behind the Iron Curtain for decades afterwards, until he emigrated to Canada via Europe in 1976, where he built a new life filled with music.
An exceptionally talented violinist, Mikhail devoted 40 years to the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, where his talent and deep passion for music touched the hearts of many. He also performed widely outside the Hamilton Philharmonic and was a respected teacher.
Above all, Mikhail was a devoted son, a loving father to Katya and Alex, and a proud grandfather to Mitchell. His humor, resilience, and generousity will be missed and never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory.
May the sound of him playing the violin remain forever in our hearts.

So sorry to hear this sad news. He was a lovely man, talented and kind and generous with his time.
He played chamber music with me and told me which violin / piano sonatas to learn first and his beautiful sound filled my living room. He inspired me and I owe him a debt of gratitude … am still playing these sonatas at the age of 86……
