BERENBAUM, Sophia (nee Isenberg) Peacefully at Juravinski Hospital on February 21, 2012. Devoted wife of Lou (deceased 2006) for 69 years. Beloved mother and mother-in-law to Ron, Steve and Alberta, Gary and Leslie; dedicated grandmother to Cory, Andrea, Michael and Kim and survived by brother Arthur in Toronto. Sophia was born January 27, 1918 in Toronto. In addition to being a loving Mother and homemaker, Sophia was a Research Assistant at McMaster University, including studies in early childhood development for Dr. Linda Siegel. Sophia was active over the years in Temple Anshe Shalom and National Council of Jewish Women and was a prime founder of “The Saturday Niters” a Hamilton seniors social group that sponsored many social and travel events for its members. Many thanks to the benefactors, administrators and the superb staff at Shalom Village. Thanks also to Sophia’s many dedicated caregivers, Dr. Mark Levy and the staff at Juravinski Hospital. Those wishing to honour Sophia’s memory are asked to make donations to Shalom Village or to a charity of their choice. Service will be held at United Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 28 Ewen Road at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012. Interment to follow at Anshe Sholom Cemetery. Private family shiva. A memorial service for Sophia will be held at a later date.
