CHERTKOFF, Helen Frances (Honey) understood that having a terminal illness means that every breath you take brings you closer to death but every breath you take also means you are still alive and able to enjoy your life to the fullest. Her wish was not to die alone and with her son Morley by her side, she took her last breath on February 15, 2016 in her beloved home in Manila, Philippines, where she and her devoted husband, Gary enjoyed five fantastic years of retirement. Dear daughter of the late Bessie and George Steinberg. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Zhang Huali, cousins Michael Berrens (Joyce), Janie Ackerman (Ben) and Janie’s children Joshua, Jonathan and Missy Cohen. Sadly missed by her nieces Rachel Chertkoff and Vanessa Gartner (Brian) and by many friends. Born in Hamilton, Honey thrilled audiences of musical comedy, oratorio and opera and, later on, she developed a talent agency she named Honey’s Talent. She was educated at the Boston Conservatory of Music where she obtained a Bachelor of Music. Making friends came easily to Honey; stray cats, raccoons and deer all found a place in her heart. All who knew Honey are welcome to join in a celebration of her life to be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the United Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 28 Ewen Road, Hamilton. Rabbi Bernard Baskin officiating. Burial has taken place in the Jewish Association of the Philippines cemetery in Manila. In lieu of flowers or donations, Honey would want you to go out and buy something for yourself or take yourself out for supper and have a good time in her memory. Nehemiah 8:10, Go your way, eat the fat and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord; neither be ye sorry, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
