On April 9, 2022 at the age of 89 years. Husband of the late Joyce Dain (Fines), father of Steven (Stephanie Loomer), and the late Robert (Cathy), brother of the late Sidney of Ottawa, brother-in-law of Ele and the late Amnon Offentier, grandfather of Michael, Adam and Aaron. Irv graduated from Queen’s University Medicine in 1956 and trained in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, where he met Joyce. They moved to Hamilton so that Irv could take a position at the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital where he worked and taught from 1960 to 1997. He was involved in the establishment of the McMaster University Medical School and was the chair of the committee that obtained accreditation for HPH as a teaching hospital. He also had a private practice until he retired at age 79. He was a kind and dedicated father, physician and teacher. He enjoyed boating, and travelled extensively on cruises with Joyce, family, and friends. He brought laughter to his friends, family, and patients. Thanks to the wonderful staff of Amica London. So Sorry to Learn of the passing of Irving and Joyce. I had the pleasure of Conducting Business with Both of them along with Regular contact during Retirement at the Gym.
Irv’s humour and Joyce’s Corrections will long be remembered with Continued Pleasure.
Fondest memories of both Irving and Joyce, such a friendly, lively couple who positively interacted while out walking in the neighborhood. Even Rippley one of our cats loved them and decided he would take up residence at their home. Perhaps because Irv doted on Rippley, and spoiled him rotten making him feel so special. (Here Rippley was simply one of 3 cats.) Dr. Dain lavished him with special food and care, and bonded so closely with the cat that one day Joyce declared, ” I think that man needs a psychiatrist!!”
Shalom, dear Irv and Joyce, and rest peacefully.
I worked as Medical Secretary with Dr. Dain for over 12 years. We worked very hard on a busy admission unit, but had a lot of fun along the way. He was a dedicated and compassionate psychiatrist. We still kept in touch after he retired in 1997. RIP Irv and my deepest condolences to his family.
To the Dain family.
I haven’t seen Dr. Dain in years. I just want to say how much he meant
to me and my family. Thank you Irv for all your help, you made a difference in
my life.
Rest in Peace.
I knew Irving and Joyce as a couple. Irv had a great sense of humour, always a twinkle in his eye. I used to tease them about all their wallpaper and Joyce would say….too bad, we like it and it is staying.
My condolences to the family.
