FEIN, Elizabeth Mary (1951 – 2013) With profound sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Liz) Fein (nee Roberts), on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in Oakville, surrounded by her family and dear friends. Beloved wife of Jared; Cherished mother of Joanna (Aaron Jacob) and Alison (Howard Markowitz); Precious sister of Barry; Proud nana of Nathan, Jillian, Thomas and Daniel. Now reunited with her loving parents, Irwin and Emily Roberts, late of Oakville.
Originally from Montreal, Liz and her family moved to Oakville in 1980, where she quickly became an active member of the community. She canvassed and fundraised for many local charities throughout her life. Liz proudly worked for over 25 years at Dr. Stephen Shaughnessy’s dental office, where she knew and loved all the patients and drew so much inspiration from helping them. She was a long-standing member of the board of Shaarei-Beth El Synagogue, serving on various committees and as its first female president. Liz’s passion and greatest joy was sharing her gift of music, alongside many close friends as a member of the synagogue choir. A glowing, positive influence to all she met, Liz faced every day with grace, dignity and an infectious smile.
Liz and Jared travelled many times to Ireland — their favorite place to vacation. They spent memorable hours touring the Irish countryside and soaking in its warm, inviting culture. These memories and the people who helped shape them had a very special place in Liz’s heart.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many healthcare and support professionals who stood by Liz through her brave fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Her personal support workers, Grace and Bennet, deeply touched our family through their unwavering dedication and compassion. Laurie from the ALS Society of Canada was our rock. We are humbled and overwhelmed by the hundreds of cards, flowers and visits that Liz received from her many patients, colleagues, friends and family. Each one brightened her days.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013, 1:30pm at Shaarei-Beth El Synagogue, 186 Morrison Road in Oakville. Interment to follow. Expressions of sympathy and celebrations of Liz’s life are gratefully appreciated to the ALS Society of Canada – Halton Region (www.als.ca).
