We are saddened by the sudden loss of a vibrant young 91-year-old. Gloria Goldie Garshowitz Greenspan Glayt, referred to as GG by her friends at Shalom Village, was born on November 26, 1929. She died peacefully at Shalom Village on January 18, 2021, after a 3 week illness. Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend, saw the world through rose coloured glasses. She is pre-deceased by her husband Samuel Greenspan, her son Barry Greenspan, brother Barrel Garshowitz, sister Ruthie Garshowitz, Parents Freda and Max Garshowitz. She will be dearly missed by her children Larry Greenspan (Seleen Brewer and Alex Eidelman, Reece and River Eidelman, Shane Brewer and Melanie Couckuyt), Sharon and Bob Thorne (Lisa Thorne, Sonya and Charles Armstrong, Isabelle and Olivia Armstrong), Ruth Greenspan and Isaac Rashid (Sam Rashid, Sarah Rashid, Keenan Lynch and Jacob Rashid) and Sandra Maygard. She touched everyone she knew with her kindness, her love of family and community, her amazing baking, her desire to volunteer and give back. She loved to dance, act, paint, knit, garden, woodwork and play BINGO. Above all, she was a non-judgmental person and it is a tribute that she passed not only on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but also on the 18th… Chai, cheers to life!!!! Donations can be made in her honour to Shalom Village or a charity of your choice.
Please note: In an effort to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 virus, graveside services will be limited to a maximum of 10 persons (including Clergy) for the safety of mourners, funeral home and cemetery staff. I knew Gloria for several years as she volunteered to bake for the First Interfaith Out of the Cold program She prepared delicious cakes , cookies, bars that were much appreciated. I picked them up from her Toronto house on Thursday afternoons. A gracious , generous woman who always talked lovingly about her family.
My sincere condolences.

To Ruth and family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. I am so sorry for your loss.
To the family of Gloria,
we got to know Gloria over the years through our mother, Ethel Levy – from the Shalom Village apartments to LTC. Ethel was a close friend of Gloria’s sister, Eunice, and was so happy to be friends with Gloria at Shalom. Gloria was sweet and gentle, and her love for her family was evident. Still feeling bereft over the recent loss of our mother, we extend our deepest sympathies to all of you.
Sincerely, Helaine Ortmann, Arlyn Levy, and Gary Levy
To the family of Goldie Greenspan. I was saddened to hear this news. She was a lovely lady and I saw her and her son’s, her sister, Eunice and brother Beryl(who had by my dentist for years) at many Garshowitz family function, both simchas and unfortunately funerals and shivas. To all of you who have been left behind, may your memories sustain you. May you be comforted with all the Mourners of Zion and Yerushalyim and know no more sorrow.
Cousin, Janice Lebow nee.Garshowitz.
