It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hynda Halpren, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Hynda will be profoundly missed by her sons, Mark and David, their wives, Lisa and Leah, and her four cherished grandsons. She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Marcia, and her partner, Steve Kollins, as well as her nieces, cousins, and extended family.

Hynda was born in West Germany in the aftermath of World War II. Tragically, her mother passed away shortly after her birth, and her father, Morris Kofsky, brought her and her sister to Toronto, where they built a new life. Many of Hynda’s relatives perished in the Holocaust, and she dedicated time to locating surviving family members and uncovering her family’s history. Hynda trained as a dental assistant in Hamilton, where she also started her family. She was an active and passionate member of the Hamilton community, dedicating her time to various Jewish fundraising groups and children’s organizations. Her involvement included significant roles in organizations like Hadassah-Wizo and Temple Anshe Sholom Hamilton, among others. Hynda found joy in tennis, golf, and art, and was a member of the Beverly Golf Club in Hamilton and the Naples Heritage Golf Club in Florida. She thrived on the social connections she made through volunteering, always eager to help others and support her community. She shared two decades of happiness with her late husband, Murray, after his retirement. Hynda’s life was enriched by many longstanding friendships, which brought her strength and comfort throughout her years. Known for her selflessness and compassion, she always put others first.

Her illness was brief, with cancer diagnosed in her final days. A graveside funeral will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 3:30 p.m.

Shiva will take place immediately following until 9 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday, at 3000 Creekside Drive, Dundas.

Services will be held each day at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hynda’s memory may be made to Temple Anshe Sholom in Hamilton, Hamilton Health Sciences, or the Canadian Cancer Society
