Loss of an Icon KATZ, Jack “Dazzling 85 years” It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of an amazing son and brother, exemplary husband, a role model as a father, the perfect grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone he met. Jack passed away peacefully at his home on November 19, 2016, surrounded by his family, just the way he would have liked it. He is survived by his wife Barbara, and five sons and their wives (Ronnie and Sherry, Brian and Laurie, Ari and Sherri, Teddy and Fabiana, and Mende and Kathleen), and his 19 grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Jack would be the first to tell you he had a really good life. He was the youngest of seven children in the Katz family and an instrumental part of the family business, Hamilton Auto Parts and later Parkdale Auto Parts. Jack would say his greatest legacy was his family. He loved all his children, grand- children, and great-grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader. But he saved his biggest love for his wife and best friend of 63 years, Barbara. He was a mensch, and was known, respected, and loved by many in the community and around the city. We are all proud to be part of his clan and will strive to carry on his legacy. The family would like to thank his home health care team, especially nurse Kathy Hodge who kept him comfortable. Shiva services (to pay respects to Jack’s family) are taking place at 67 Caroline Street South in Apartment 5C, Monday through Thursday and conclude Friday at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to know that Jack will be honoured this year at the annual Adas Israel Brotherhood Social fundraiser on Wednesday, November 30 at 7 p.m. where we will celebrate his life and contribution to the Jewish community. Ticket purchases or donations in memory of Jack Katz can be made by calling Eileen at 905-528-0039.
