Date of death: July 5, 2023
Funeral will take place on July 9, 2023, at 11am graveside, at the Adas Israel Cemetery, 1224 Upper James St., Hamilton.
Sadly, Sharon (nee Wosk) Lax died on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. A double-lung transplant recipient of four-and-a-half years, she developed insurmountable medical issues over the last weeks. Her valiant struggle to overcome her illness was finally too great a burden. Born in Vancouver, Sharon was one of five siblings born to Lil and Ben Wosk. She came east to school in Montreal, where she met Stephen, who became her husband of 53 years. She was a superb mother to Nicole, and Andrew and Jenny, and the dearest grandma to Ava and Simone. In her own right, Sharon was an accomplished teacher, and served on the boards of her synagogue, Mohawk College, and the Hamilton Community Foundation. She took her civic responsibilities seriously. And, she was a dear and loving friend to many. The graveside funeral will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Adas Israel Cemetery (original Ohev Tzedek cemetery) – 1224 Upper James St., Hamilton, at 11 o’clock. Shiva to be observed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 14 Old Ancaster Road, Dundas, Ontario from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. with evening services at 7:30 p.m. Sharon had a favourite expression which was “Every year is different”. From now on, that will always be true. Donations in her memory may be made to: Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant Clinic – (416) 340-3111, St. Joseph’s Hospital – (905)522-1155, or Shalom Village – (905)529-1613.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Sharon’s passing. My parents and Sharon’s parents were very dear friends. They kindly hosted the Rehearsal Dinner for us at their lovely home 52 years ago. Our sincerest regrets to the Lax family.

Dear Stephen and family, I feel compelled to write to you even though I did not personally know Sharon. As an old Hamiltonian word travels through the grapevine, both good and bad. I followed many inspiring stories from friends over the last few years of the courage, resilience and determination that you and Sharon both showed and shared. You have both shown me once again how I and we all need to move forward with our lives just the way Sharon did without taking a moment for granted. She will share in my repertoire of friends, family and people I know that have taught me this. Please accept my sincere condolences. Barbara Gooblar

Stephen, Nicole, Andrew & Jenny,

Judy and family we are so sorry for your loss. May her memory be for a blessing.
I’ve just arrived at our cottage on Manitoulin Island, 7 hours northwest of Toronto, and heard this very sad news. As a childhood friend of Ronnie’s since 1964, I had numerous encounters with Sharon over the years at the Lax family home on Markland Street. She was always unfailingly nice to her brother-in-law’s bratty friends. Please accept my sincere condolences and know that many people will be remembering Sharon as I do: fondly, and with good memories.
Dear Lax Family,
Please know that my heart and thoughts are with you for, Sharon. My late mother, Rochelle played tennis with her many years ago and I was very fond of her too.
Best wishes ❤️,
