My sincere condolences to the Popper family. Hana Popper was a lovely person, a true friend, and a great neighbour to the Miller Family (Harold & Bella and their children Bud, Shirley, Norma, Graham, and their grandchildren). Our family relationship with Hana, her husband Joe, and children Steven, Dave and Bobby began almost 70 years ago when we were neighbours on English Church Road in Mt. Hope. The Poppers always seemed like family. I had a wonderful phone conversation with Hana in June 2020. Hana’s memory was sharp as a person half her age and was pleased to reminisce about our families. She shared her experience escaping her homeland on the Kindertransport. What a blessing it was to know Hana. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
My condolences to the Popper family. I never got a chance to meet Mrs. Popper, but I did hear some of her stories from her son Bob. She seemed like a great lady. She will be missed by many that knew her and lots that didn’t. My thoughts are with her family.
Sincere condolences from the children of Lore Jacobs z”l, another Hamiltonian who was on a Kindertransport to England. My mother often spoke about your mother (her life and her hat in the photo with Nicholas Winton) – they were friends. I am sure we met at some point at Temple Anshe Sholom over the 50 plus years that our family were members. It is always so sad to lose one’s mother, and I admire your mother for her strength to make a good life for herself and your extended family in spite of the saddest of experiences in her younger years.
May her memory be a blessing,
Gale Jacobs Halpern (and Peter Jacobs) and families.
I am sending my condolences to the family of Hana Popper. My parents,Rose and William Brown of Brantford,ON were good friends of the Popper family, many years ago in Brantford.I knew Mrs.Popper when I was a child, and had a wonderful conversation with her by chance at the Art Gallery in Hamilton years ago..Our conversation was about James Joyce,in his role as her tutor.I loved that she referred to him as “Jimmy”,and I asked her :”You mean James Joyce?”
“yes”,she responded.
I am sorry for your loss.
