Shumacher, Sidney On Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Juravinski Hospital, after a brave battle with several health issues, Sid passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family – his wife of 56 years, Sonia, daughter Alissa, son Norman and wife Christina, adored and cherished Zaida of Sabrina, Maya and Evan. Brother of the late Morris Shuman, Lou Shumacher and Lottie Valinsky. He will be sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews, and he will be remembered with great love by the many whose lives he touched. He was the proud owner of Shumacher’s Shoe Store, a staple on Barton St. for over 30 years. Donations in Sid’s memory can made to Club Fitness Centre at Shalom Village.
Uncle Sid was a true gentleman in every sense.
His passing is nothing less than a deep cutting loss certainly to his entire family as well as friends and the community. He was from a generation that valued hard work, courage, keeping one’s word and respect for others. He was fiercely loyal and brutally honest – acts of theft, deception and insult were completely foreign to him. His family was always first.
We will all truly miss Uncle Sid but we are certainly better people simply because we knew him and valued our relationship within his extended family.
During his life he showed all of us the path that we should all follow, irregardless of its challenges – the path offering help to others through “tzedakah” (charity) and “chessed” (acts of kindness). Let’s all do our part to make this word a better place !!
On behalf of my wife Jennifer, my children – Lauren & Zack and my mother Ida, we offer our deepest and sincerest condolences to Aunt Sonia, Alissa and Norman.
With love and respect,
Kevin
From the Shuman Family:
Today we bury an amazing human being. Uncle Sydney you always knew how to light up the room and we are all going to miss you dearly. We love you. You will forever be young at 95 years old.
Today is even more hard for all of us because you were the last known sibling alive from Zadie’s side, our last piece of connection to him.
It’s hard because you were loved by so many not just your family and you would of had one of the biggest funerals, but because of COVID-19, you won’t get the honour.
We all love you so much and we hope that you Rest In Peace 💚. Always remembered, never forgotten. Until we meet again Uncle Sydney 💚.
*Side Note, he didn’t pass because of COVID-19, he passed from other health problems.
So deeply sorry for you loss
Sid’s presence in the Chai Choir will be deeply missed. All thoughts with your family during this difficult time
