Date of death: April 30, 2024
Henry Vine was born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, and is survived by
the love of his life, Donna Latner, to whom he was married for 66 years.
Henry, aged 90, passed away on April 30th, 2024. His parents, Lazar
Vine and Rochel Goldblatt, instilled in him many admirable traits:
dignity, quiet strength, a deep sense of principle, and a love of
community. Henry developed a genuine and enduring respect for those
around him. Through him, Henry’s children, Leslie, David, Lawrence,
and Natalie, were imbued with these same qualities, and he was forever
an inspiration to his sisters, Goldie Newman and Elaine Vine, in their
lives and pursuits. Henry studied to be a Chartered Accountant at the
urging of his parents, and was Senior Partner in the accounting practice
that he founded in 1965. The firm was highly regarded throughout the
Hamilton region, eventually becoming Vine and Partners in the 1970s. He
was esteemed as a Trustee in Bankruptcy, helping countless clients over
the years to navigate times of financial difficulty. Henry and Donna
have always been proud and active members of Hamilton’s Jewish
community, and they’ve been part of the Beth Jacob congregation for
decades. A life-long golf enthusiast, he never quite made the cut on
the Seniors’ Tour.
Henry adored his four children and always
supported them in the pursuit of their life goals. He cherished his
five grandchildren, Meredith, Adam, Avery, Annika, and Danel, all of
whom had a loving and caring relationship with their Zaidi. Henry was
the rock upon which this family was built, guiding us all, and helping
to make the world a wiser and warmer place.

Dear Donna and Family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences. I worked for (but always felt like “with”) Mr. Vine at Vine and Partners as a bankruptcy administrator. I have always been grateful for having known him. He treated everyone that worked there and every client that walked through the door with respect and dignity. The respect we had for him is a direct result of his character. I will always remember having brunch in your home with the other ladies from the bankruptcy department and Donna made the most beautiful and delicious dishes. I wish all of you peace during this time.

Goldie and Sam, Elaine and family.
I am saddened that you have lost your dear brother. Elaine, we knew each other as girls in Hamilton. I was a bit younger than you. Goldie of course I know as a beloved former Shaarei Shomayim member with Sam and a dear friend of my cousin, Doreen Lewis Stolar and last but not least…my neighbors in the same apartment building. We go back a very long time. Your brother of Blessed Memory sounds like a fine gentleman. May your memories help to sustain you. Hamakom Yenachem Etchem Betoch Shaar Avalei Tzion ve Yerushalyim and know no more sorrow.
