It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father/father-in-law, brother and deda David. David Volman was born on March 23,1930 in Moldavia. He had two siblings, Kiva and Luba Volman. During the second world war, they had to be evacuated from their home in a hurry to Uzbekistan. As a family, they lost it all, but survived bombardments and blockades. He lost his father in the war and his mother was imprisoned during Stalin’s regime. Instantly, he became the head of the family at the age of 13 looking after his two younger siblings and being responsible for his own and their lives. He was able to get a job at the factory and was consistently working 12 hours shifts to produce shells for the Red Army. When the war was over, he reunited with his mother and continued to work tirelessly to help his siblings to get an education. David always put his family ahead of his own needs.
In Uzbekistan he met his future wife, Lida. They raised two incredible children, Mark and Misha. David and Lida then immigrated to Canada in January 1994 to give life a fresh start. David took joy in helping his older son to establish his business. He was helping both his children to raise their kids (Gary, Alec, Isaiah and Aaron), when they needed it most. He was a nature lover and he enjoyed spending time outdoors taking long walks, fishing, and observing the world around him. He was a loyal friend who never refused to help anyone with any request or task. David was undoubtedly courageous. He battled through four cancers, and was able to fight through all like a true super hero until just recent. We were very fortunate to have such a loving, gentle, selfless and fearless man in our life. David will always be a part of our lives and forever in our hearts and memories.
The Volman family wishes to express a deep gratitude to everyone who cared for David during his most recent journey. A special thank you to all staff and volunteers at the Dr. Bob Kemp hospice who provided compassionate care and comfort to David at a time he needed most.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Bob Kemp hospice or the Hamilton Jewish Family Services.

My thoughts are with the family at this time. David was such a presence at Hamilton Jewish Family Services senior day program. Over the years that I have know David, he was such a gentleman and always thoughtful of others. I will miss his good morning greetings and the special treats that he shared with me over they years.
