On behalf of the family of the late Saul Cohen (Hamilton Kosher) a cousin of Paul’s we offer our sincere condolences to the Yanover family. Paul was a dynamic and unique individual treasured by all who knew him personally or in his many Hamilton roles on radio and off. Stay well and strong.
“This is Paul, saying that’s all. Do as you would be did by”. Well, even though we live in southern Alberta, if you meet someone from the Hamilton area and say Uncle Paul’s sign off, they know exactly who you are talking about and where you come from. Such was his reputation.
As a nephew I mourn the loss of Uncle Paul. I remember many of the family stories he recounted at Bubby and Zaidy Yanover’s on Sundays, always with tea and home made strudel. I also have Uncle Paul to thank for a few pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters here and there, as I would always check the couch after he had a little lie down.
To Ian and Ina, Laurie and Fran, and to all of your extended family, how blessed you are to have had Paul in your lives for such a long time.
May his memory be a blessing.
Dear Ian and Ina, My full condolences to you and extended family. As I think Ian knows, my first awareness of Paul came from our listening, in Toronto, to the Harry Harris Jewish Hour, on CHML, hosted of course by Paul. It was also a test of directional radio reception. We even won a prize–a cake, from a bakery that was a famous advertiser on the program–for recognizing and quickly phoning in the name of a famous recorded singer of Yiddish songs.–Shea
Dear Ian and family and Dina (nee Hanover). Paul Hanover was a daily part of my childhood and young adult years growingly up in Hamilton . CHML always playing in the background of our family kitchen. Paul Hanover’s voice was an extended part of family conversation and then watch him on his T.V. programs. As a teenager I got to know Ian as he was a good friend of a cousin of mine. My heart goes out to you on the sad loss of your dear father. How fortunate you were to have had him in your life for so many years. Also my condolences to your cousin Dina ( a long time girlhood friend) on the loss of her dear uncle. She had always been proud of her famous uncle. May you be comforted with all the Mourners of Zion and Yerushalyim and know no more sorrow. Janice LEBOW (nee Garshowitz)
One of Hamilton’s Greats. Such a talent, wonderful humour and a nice guy.
It was an honour to have worked with Paul at one of Canada’s top
radio stations. Our thoughts are with the family and Paul’s huge number
of fans.
My first memory of Paul dates back more than 60 years. Originally from Brantford,I was a University of Toronto student, engaged to be married; the wedding ceremony would be held in Hamilton .My mother,Rose Brown of Brantford suggested I call Paul to ask if he could recommend a Band for our reception.Such was Paul’s fame.Everyone knew him.And of course he was so friendly on the phone with me, gave me the name of a great Band.Years later,Stan and I were lucky to become friends with Paul and Helen.Paul of course had no recollection of my call from years ago; his nature was that of being a genuine friend to all.
We have wonderful memories of being with them.
We mourn your loss; our hearts are with you.
Esther and Stan Simpson
What a wonderful man and a long life well lived. May his memory be a blessing

Dear Yanover/Hanover family,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I remember Paul swimming with me at the YMCA, doggedly moving through the water with a strong front crawl, and stopping to talk with me about the power of moving through the water. We both loved to swim….
Of course I grew up listening to his voice on the radio and then getting to know him as such a warm sparkler of a human being.
May his memory be for a blessing. Sending extra xoxo to you all. Warmly, Lesley Simpson

Dear Ian, Ina and family,
My deepest condolences in the loss of Paul. When I was 8 years old Paul came to our home to record us as my parents had won a refrigerator on his show “Mother Parker’s Musical Mysteries”. What an exciting experience. Many years later I was fortunate to work with Ian for many years @ K-Lie radio. May all your loving memories comfort you in the days ahead.
Warmly,
Karen Ferris
