LEVY, Monte Ellis It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monte Ellis Levy after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Madeleine (Smiley) for 39 years and devoted father of Deanna Levy. Cherished son and son-in-law of the late Harriet and Irving Smiley and Surkie and Frank Levy. Dear brother-in-law to Debra and Robert Holtzman and Karen and Neil Pollack. Special uncle and grand-uncle to David, Marisa (Josh), Adam (Samantha) Laura (Jonathan) and Quinn and Emma. Cherished cousin of Marsha (Gord) Brandes and family. Monte was a dedicated community volunteer and supporter, who gave much to enrich the lives of others in Hamilton through organizations such as Hamilton Out of Cold, Haldimand United Way, ACCPI Youth Scholarship Program and the Hamilton Jewish Federation Board of Directors. He will be long remembered for his unwavering commitment, for over 30+ selfless years, to the burial needs of the Jewish community and especially to the United Hebrew Memorial Chapel of Hamilton and the holy tasks of the Chevra Kadisha (chesed shel emet, a good deed of truth). Monte felt this service was one of the greatest privileges of his life. Heartfelt gratitude to our family and friends, who truly comforted us during this journey. We were blessed to spend our last days at the Bob Kemp Hospice, a place of loving kindness.
